About Us

State of the art education and training centre

LonDEC (London Dental Education Centre) is a state-of-the-art education and training centre designed to enhance and further the skills and knowledge of the entire dental team.

Opened in late 2009, by King’s College London in partnership with the NHS London Deanery, the £2.4 m high-specification centre is dedicated to the task of training healthcare professionals, driving clinical standards and improving clinical leadership via unrivalled opportunities for continuous personal and professional development.

  • <p></p><p>Infection control and decontamination is central to running a CQC compliant practice. Guidelines and regulations on managing every aspect of dentistry are constantly being revised. So it can difficult to keep up to date and digest what is new and relevant to your practice.</p><p>This course is designed to highlight and explain new issues in infection control and decontamination and how you might implement new guidance into your practice’s infection control policy.</p><p><b>Learning objectives:</b></p><p>This full day course will be split into two sections the morning session will cover an update on the principles and management of infection control and prevention in primary care and is suitable for the whole dental team</p><p>The afternoon session will review antimicrobial stewardship highlighting the worldwide problem of antimicrobial resistance and the role of the dental team in responsible and appropriate antimicrobial prescribing.  The Health and Social care Act Code of Practice 2015 has made antimicrobial stewardship in dental practice a requirement of CQC registration. In order to achieve this requirement dental practitioners are encouraged to diagnose the clinical cause of the oral bacterial infections and provide definitive local treatment when appropriate and only consider the use of antibiotics in line with published guidance. The course will cover auditing of antimicrobial use in dental practice, and the antimicrobial treatment of common oral bacterial, viral and fungal infections.</p><ul><li>Appreciate which micro-organisms which may potentially be transferred through dental procedures.</li><li>Be able to implement clinical infection control protocols in General Dental Practice.</li><li>Understand the need for antimicrobial stewardship and audit in dental practice.</li><li>Be able to recognise the symptoms &amp; understand the tests used to diagnose common oral and peri-oral infections.</li><li>Be able to treat and manage common oral and peri-oral bacterial, fungal &amp; viral infections &amp; understand their overall clinical management.</li></ul><br><p></p>

  • <p></p><p>An interactive course offering formal training to GDPs new to the NHS or a timely update for current NHS dental performers.</p><p>The course will help an understanding of the common pitfalls and grey areas of the NHS regulations which have been notoriously difficult to interpret.</p><p>Falling foul of the NHS regulations can lead to financial loss and potential referral to the GDC.</p><p>This interactive one-day course will offer formal training to practitioners who are new to the NHS system and those who require an update with the current system (introduced in 2006).</p><p><b>Learning objectives:</b></p><ul><li>Understand how NHS performers are monitored and performance managed</li><li>Understand the legislation in respect to the delivery of NHS treatments and claims</li><li>Appreciate real cases in respect to misinterpretation of the NHS regulations</li><li>Understand the pitfalls of the NHS regulations</li><li>Appreciate the Dental Assurance Framework and the ‘Powys’ judgement</li></ul><p>This 1 day course is designed for all dental registrants and aims to provide participants with the latest information regarding best NHS practice.</p><br><p></p>

  • <p></p><p>This course is aimed at GDPs wanting to achieve beautifully tapered root fillings to within 1mm of the apex every time.</p><p>Rotary and reciprocating endodontics is moving ahead at a fast pace and it is difficult to choose the right system for you. We will be working with two of the new systems out Protaper Gold (replaces protaper) and reciproc blue. We are happy to also help with existing a systems that you have.</p><p>The course is predominantly hands on with an excellent ratio between delegates and teachers to ensure that you gain reproducible practical skills that you can take back to your practice and improve your endodontics.</p><p>Real teeth provide challenges that artificial teeth don’t and as you work on real teeth in practice we work on real teeth on the course.</p><p></p>
