About
The Canadian Foundation for the Advancement of Orthodontics (CFAO) was established in 1981 to promote the advancement of the science and art of orthodontics not only to our Specialist colleagues, but also to orthodontic students and the general public.
Over the years, through generous donations from CAO members, corporate members, speakers and professional colleagues, the CFAO has continued to fund many worthwhile endeavours such as:
the student poster program and LACOR: the Latest Advancements in Canadian Orthodontic Research Symposium at the annual CAO Scientific Session
the premier lecture for the annual session, known as the McIntyre Lecture
CAO educational webinars, which have become very important during the pandemic
The CFAO has helped Canadian postgraduate students fund special requirements for their research, including statistical analysis, necessary computer time and attendance at international scientific sessions to present their research.
More recently, the CFAO has created Smiles4Canada, a nationwide program to help fund treatment for deserving children from families that do not otherwise have the financial resources to pay for orthodontic treatment. To date, over 600 Canadian children have benefited from the program, for which CAO member orthodontists have provided pro bono treatment that has created healthy and beautiful smiles.
The CFAO is always a good choice for your charitable contributions. In addition to helping fund orthodontic education and providing a strong basis for lifelong learning, the CFAO also enables students to present their research internationally, creating a strong network for future collaboration with colleagues. Please consider continued support by giving an added donation at the time of annual renewal, making a one-time donation in the name of a member orthodontist, or becoming a McIntyre Fellow with recognition at the annual session, on the website and in the bulletin.
The CFAO is your gateway to help ensure that the students of today become engaged members of our specialty in the future. They deserve your help through continued support!
